about the companion connection

What is the Companion Connection

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet, the overlooked, and the Companions who watch without needing to be noticed. Long before Wylderwoods, I was learning from the livestock Companions who watched over our farm in Northern Canada (Wet’suwet’en Nation). Isolated & living on the precipice of endless forest, I relied on them to keep me safe, and as i grew, I realised my connection with Companions was something rare.

That upbringing led me up the ladder to eventually work as a Canine Behaviourist at one of Canada’s largest humane societies. I loved the work, but I hit compassion fatigue, and for a long time, I didn’t think I’d be able to work with Companions again.

Turning to interior design gave me a new lens. A way to heal, create, and pay attention to how spaces shape the way we feel. Slowly, my connection with Companions returned. I realised everything I had learned from them could live in the spaces I create for Humans.

At Wylderwoods Lighting & Design, that story guides every project. We design spaces that illuminate comfort, connection, and purpose for everyone who lives in them, Human or Companion alike.

The Companion Connection is a design philosophy that puts both humans and their Companions at the centre of the home. It recognises that a home is more than walls and furniture. It is a shared space where every detail, from layout to light, affects how everyone feels.

Connection is about creating spaces that make daily life easier, calmer, and more comfortable for all who live there. Homes where routines flow naturally, where quiet moments can be enjoyed in sunlight.

At its core, the Companion Connection shapes every project at Wylderwoods. From practical design for muddy paws to lighting that soothes and lifts, it is about creating homes that hold everyone, Human or Companion alike, in comfort, connection, and purpose.
